YAP JUN XIAN

Lead Physiotherapist
Pilates Rehab
Movement Educator

Helping people understand their bodies, build physical capacity, and move with greater confidence.

For more than 12 years, Jun Xian has worked with people across physiotherapy, Pilates and exercise, helping clients move from where they are now toward what they want to be able to do.

His approach is simple:

Understand the person first. Then choose the exercise.

Rather than following a fixed sequence or relying on exercises simply because they look impressive, Jun focuses on understanding how a person moves, what they can currently tolerate, what they need to improve, and how to progressively build their physical capacity.

Exercise is only the tool.

The real work is knowing what the person in front of you needs.

A good exercise is not necessarily the most difficult exercise.

Sometimes the right starting point is a simple movement performed with better control.
Sometimes an exercise needs to be made easier.
Sometimes it needs to be made more challenging.

And sometimes the exercise itself isn’t the problem — the way it has been selected, taught or progressed is.
Jun’s approach combines physiotherapy knowledge with Pilates-based training and progressive exercise to help clients develop:

Strength

Build the capacity to produce and control force.

Mobility

Improve the movement available to you and your ability to use it.

Balance & control

Develop confidence and control during movement.

Physical confidence

Reduce uncertainty around what your body can and cannot do.

Function

Translate training into things that matter in everyday life.

A particular focus on seniors and rehabilitation

Jun has a particular interest in working with older adults, people returning to exercise, and clients who have experienced pain, injury or movement limitations. For these clients, exercise can sometimes feel uncertain.

They may worry about making something worse.
They may have stopped exercising because of pain.
Or they may simply no longer trust their body in the way they once did.

Jun’s role is not to push people through that uncertainty.

It is to find an appropriate starting point, build capability progressively and help clients become more confident in what their bodies can do.

The goal isn’t simply to exercise.

It’s to become more capable.

The Signature program

A more individualized approach with Jun Xian.

Designed for clients who want a deeper level of individual assessment, planning and ongoing guidance.

First session includes a detailed initial assessment to understand:

– your history
– current physical ability
– movement
– goals
– relevant limitations
– priorities for training

The first session then combines this understanding with practical movement and exercise.
Subsequent sessions focus on progressively building the physical qualities that matter to you.

Depending on your needs, this may include:

Strength • Mobility • Balance • Control • Conditioning • Movement confidence
Jun’s Signature Program may be appropriate for people who:

– want a highly individualized approach
– have more complex movement or training needs
– are returning to exercise after an injury
– want detailed assessment before starting a program
– prefer working directly with an experienced Physiotherapist
– want ongoing guidance as their physical capacity develops

Jun Xian is a highly knowledgeable and experienced instructor. I met him at another studio previously, and decided to take private classes with him at WIF Pilates. He is exceptionally attentive and personalises the exercises to fit your fitness needs, pace and capability. You walk away having done more than you first thought you could. If you want to improve your overall well-being or target certain trouble areas, I highly recommend Jun Xian and his colleagues at WIF Pilates 🙂

Being someone who joined by chance and being a total stranger to Pilates, I can only say that I am so glad I embarked on this journey under the guidance of Jun Xian. Truly professional, genuine, knowledgeable, friendly and encouraging. Look forward to seeing JX teaching in his 60s 🙂 and hopefully I can still proudly be his student 😀

I have been to WIF Pilates for a number of individual sessions with Xian Jun. I am new to Pilates but felt at ease as right from the first session it was clear that he is knowledgeable and I was able to see improvements in my posture and movement straight away. The studio is conveniently located, enough parking, very nicely done. I also like that Xian Jun is very punctual and well prepared. Happy to recommend this studio.
